ARCADE challenges you to write a short, short story about design using only 9 words. Select your 9 words for coherence and cadence to achieve spellbinding effects. The contest gives members the opportunity to voice their thoughts on design and the built environment. This is reflected in our mission and the core of our existence.


  • Write a 9 word story about design in any of its manifestations. This is the only acceptable length and topic

  • Only enter an original unpublished story, written by you

  • Enter on-line. This is the only entry method

  • Pay the $20 entry fee (any additional amount will be deemed a donation to ARCADE)

  • Enter a maximum of two stories (each with a $20 fee)

  • Confirm your agreement to the Conditions of Entry

  • Feel free to invite your friends to participate, as an author or voter

  • Be 18 or older and US Resident

  • Contest is void where prohibited by law. ARCADE is not responsible for lost, late or incomplete entries or entries not received for any reason. Entries will not be acknowledged or returned.


  • Submit Contest entries on paper or by email

  • Write something your mother would disapprove of. ARCADE reserves the right to reject any story for inappropriate content.

  • Hesitate. The entry deadline is September 30, 2010
